How I’ve Been Using AI to Control and Reverse My Type 2 Diabetes

A few years ago, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes — a moment that changed everything.

At first, I felt overwhelmed. Like many others, I was given medication, told to "eat better" and "move more," and then sent on my way. But that just scratched the surface. I wanted more — not just to manage my diabetes, but to reverse it.

That’s when I turned to something unexpected: artificial intelligence.

As someone fascinated by technology and passionate about staying informed, I decided to explore how AI could help me take control of my health — and it’s been a game-changer.

How AI Became My Daily Health Companion

Here’s how I’ve been using AI tools to monitor, adapt, and improve my health — and how you can too.

1. Tracking My Blood Sugar & Patterns with AI

Using apps like MySugr and Apple Health (paired with AI plugins and devices), I log my fasting and post-meal blood sugar levels daily. But I don’t just look at the numbers — I use AI tools to find trends.

Example: When I input meals, sleep patterns, and glucose readings, AI models (like ChatGPT or HealthGPT) help me identify:

  • Which meals spike my glucose

  • What time of day I’m most insulin resistant

  • How poor sleep affects my blood sugar

I even ask ChatGPT to analyze my weekly numbers and give me feedback. It’s like having a personal diabetes coach 24/7.

2. Personalized Meal Planning and Food Swaps

Before AI, I’d spend hours googling "diabetic-friendly recipes" or trying to decode nutrition labels.

Now I ask ChatGPT things like:

  • “Create a low-carb dinner with under 30g of carbs using barramundi.”

  • “What’s a healthier substitute for fried rice?”

And I get tailored suggestions based on my goals (blood sugar stability, weight loss, low glycemic index).

Bonus: I also check Glycemic Index (GI) values instantly and get AI-generated shopping lists.

3. Creating My Supplement Strategy

There’s a lot of conflicting info out there about supplements — magnesium, aged garlic extract, berberine, cinnamon, etc.

AI helps me:

  • Review the latest clinical studies

  • Check for medication interactions

  • Tailor supplement timing (like magnesium glycinate at night)

I run things by my doctor, of course — but AI gives me the right questions to ask in the first place.

4. Designing an Exercise Plan That Works with My Shift Work

As a shift worker, my body clock is constantly flipping. Traditional fitness plans just didn’t work.

With the help of AI, I created a custom fitness routine based on:

  • My 12-hour day/night shifts

  • My recovery time

  • Low-impact routines that help lower blood sugar (like walking after meals, resistance bands, yoga)

Even when I’m exhausted, AI reminds me: 15 minutes is better than nothing. And it adjusts based on how I feel each day.

5. Daily Health Check-ins — Powered by AI

Each morning, I log:

  • My blood sugar

  • Blood pressure

  • Sleep quality

  • What I ate

Then I ask ChatGPT:

“Summarize my health stats today and make a simple plan.”

It replies with something like:

“Great job on the blood sugar trend! Keep lunch low-carb today, and get 15 mins of light walking after dinner. Watch your sodium, your BP was a bit high.”

It’s like a gentle nudge from a friend who actually cares.

The Results So Far…

  • My fasting blood sugar has dropped from over 9.0 mmol/L to as low as 5.2

  • Post-meal spikes are less dramatic

  • I’ve lost excess weight and regained energy

  • I feel more in control than ever before

I'm still on medication, but I'm working with my healthcare provider to gradually reduce it as my numbers improve.

Final Thoughts: This Is Just the Beginning

AI hasn’t replaced my doctor — but it’s become a powerful partner in my daily fight against diabetes.

It’s taught me that health isn’t just about discipline — it’s about understanding. And with AI by my side, I’m no longer guessing. I’m learning, adapting, and winning.

If you’re facing a similar challenge — whether it’s diabetes or another chronic condition — don’t underestimate the power of these tools.

Technology alone won’t reverse your diabetes.

But technology + commitment + curiosity? That just might.
